There are only 2 emergency situations that require immediate action by the interpreter who is interpreting:
-the active interpreter forgot to unmute the microphone.
-the active interpreter is speaking into a wrong channel, for example into the relay channel instead of your booth primary language channel
If those situations occur, your boothmates or other interpreters or your technician in the event will send you a message in InterStar ICP chat which will have a yellow background. That message will be accompanied by chime in case if you’re not watching the InterStar ICP chat.
If you’re interpreting and hear a chime, pay attention to InterStar ICP chat immediately. Otherwise concentrate on your interpretation.
3 more important situations that will automatically generate chimes are:
– when there is 1 minute left until the end of your shift. So if you do not see any emergency messages in the chat look at the shift timer that is under the name of the booth in the central panel.
– when your boothmate is ready to take over from you and clicks “I’m ready for handover” button. It will automatically generate a chime to attract your attention.
– when you want to handover to your boothmate and click “Please take over”.
If you can think of any situations that will require your immediate attention when you actively interpreting, you can ask your account owner/system administrator to create special messages with the chimes.
See more information about chimes here: http://interstaricp.com/forums/topic/interpreter-console-chimes/
If you’re a passive interpreter and not interpreting at the moment, monitor the performance of your boothmate and send messages/chimes as needed especially in an emergency.
