If you use InterStar ICP with the traditional console in the booth, in some simultaneous interpretation systems you cannot start talking into the relay channel before your colleague “released” the relay channel, that is switch the output in the console back to the language of the booth.

For example, if English is the relay language, and you are in the French booth, your console will not allow you to select English as your outgoing language to interpret from French into English, if your colleague for example in the Spanish booth still has English selected as the outgoing channel.

In that case the best you can do is to warn them to release the channel, that is switch the output back to – in our example – Spanish.

In InterStar ICP you can send that message in the chat by using the quick button, or you can create a completely separate dedicated button for that as you like.

In our system by default that message is preprogrammed: 1] from technician to all interpreters with a copy to all technicians 2] from interpreter to all interpreters with a copy to the technicians.

We also created a separate “Relay channel reminder” in the technician quick messages only [technician to all interpreters] that the technician can send to the entire interpretation team before the event to remind them that in this particular event they need to be mindful and release the relay channel as necessary.
