Summary: Warning/emergency chimes are now available in the interpreter console. You will hear them when there is 1 minute until the end of the shift, for the messages that have yellow background in the chat or yellow triangle in the quick messages. You can also send a chime manually to attract your boothmate attention to InterStar ICP console when your boothmate is interpreting. You will be able to mute incoming manual chimes [for your counole only].

In the interpreter console we implemented a gentle chime that consists of 3 “cricket” sounds.

It is used in order to attract interpreter tension in case of emergencies or other special situations.

The chime will be heard in the same headset the interpreter is using. the chime is 100% volume of the current volume selection by the interpreter so it will always be the same volume relative to your headset volume.

    The chime can be heard:

-by all interpreters in the booth if any interpreter in the booth clicks “Send chime” button. This is a manual warning to attract attention and you can use it if you for example have not received any response from your boothmate after your message in the chat. If you hear it please pay attention to the chat in InterStar ICP where your colleague may have posted something. This chime may be disabled by clicking “Chimes Enabled” button so it turns into “Chimes Disabled”. In that case you will not be able to hear manual chimes sent to you by your boothmates.

-if the interpreter receives any quick message with yellow background [warning message] from boothmates, other interpreters, or technician. That is an emergency message and cannot be disabled.

All quick messages with yellow triangle are accompanied by chimes.

-when any interpreter in the booth clicks “I’m ready for handover” or “Please take over”. That is a handover chime and cannot be disabled.

    – when the shift duration timer reached 1 minute. The chime in this case means that there is 1 minute left before the end of your shift and you should prepare for handover.

Chimes make interpreter’s life easier. You can entirely concentrate on your simultaneous interpretation and pay attention to the ICP platform when you hear a chime. It means that something needs your attention.

Note 1: we do not recommend to disable manual chimes. Your boothmates may want to attract your attention in an emergency.

Note 2: if you muted your boothmates audio [“Boothmates unmuted/muted” button], you will still be able to hear the chimes.

Note 3: if you’re an account administrator, you can program custom quick messages with chimes. When you configure a custom quick message, check the checkbox called “Sending also adds to recipient alert queues”. That message will be configured to be sent with the chime automatically.

Note 4: please do not send unnecessary chimes and do not repeat chimes too quickly.
